It’s already been a month since my exhibition at Hilton Lake Como. I was so excited to open ‘Como Zero Gravity’, an exhibition featuring both my work and the photographic work of Luca Bacci, showcasing the highlights of the wonderful city. To me, my time living in Como over the last two years has been life-changing, and it felt like a fitting way to honour what the city has given me.
When I first came to Como I had been having a tough time, but now I have renewed health, a new language and a whole new group of family and friends. The work I made that went into the exhibition was all produced on my return to Scotland, whilst I was missing the culture and life of Italy. So to come full circle, and see them exhibited where they ‘belonged’ was really special.
The opening event itself was an amazing surprise, as the turnout was much higher than I could have ever expected! The number of people who came during the rest of the weekend was also just remarkable. This was due in no small part, to all the advertising and promotion done by Lorenza del Vecchio - a mastermind of organisation on a grand
scale. It was lovely to see everyone from my life in Como there to celebrate with me, but also the many others I had the pleasure of meeting, who said such kind words – it really meant a lot.
This was also a big step for me in my career, to have an exhibition like this before I graduate next summer with my BA. It made me have confidence to explain my work and gave me faith in the standard of my work. I am now absolutely raring to go with future projects and more exhibitions following graduation. I would just like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors, our venue and everyone that contributed to it being such a great success.
‘It’s all happening.’
