‘Glimpses’ was a small solo show I exhibited in November of 2019, at Foodstory Aberdeen. The paintings were made in response to a trip to the Outer Hebrides of Lewis and Harris. Below is the poem for the collection, to accompany the works and to tell the story. To see the paintings click here.
A love letter to you, Stornoway.
A promise to you, Stornoway.
In the magical realm
of summer nights,
and Hebridean light,
those times were a bubble.
Of everything I needed,
to feel alive.
A refuge.
A collision of calm and chaos.
Something so sweet in the air.
Cold scalps,
warm liquid gold,
and a love to express.
Giddy
from the joyous discovery
of the real life,
the island life,
I left.
Not realising you had taken
a little pebble of my mind,
to keep behind.
But be sure
I will come to collect it
next summer,
when the first note sings
and the dancing starts.
